Better Nutrition for Low-Income Children

Many children from low-income families in Maricopa County struggle to have access to basic nutrition. Statistics indicate that Arizona is the 5th worst state in the U.S. for overall food insecurity, meaning that 1 in every 4 children in our state struggle with hunger and/or have limited access to nutritious foods.

Poor urban communities are the ones who are most at risk since they have to overcome, not only, the social-economic challenge of purchasing food but must also surpass the geographical limitation of access to lower-cost food retailers and big-box stores in urban areas. As a result, many families often resort to cheaper, processed, low-nutritional value foods which are often the only alternatives available to them, thus further aggravating the issue.
